Do you have a favorite season?

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” ― Lauren DeStefano, Wither

Colorado in the Fall

I do. And it’s now. This season of fall. For me, it begins with my September birthday, and travels with me all the way through Thanksgiving.

Colorado is known for its beautiful autumn foliage, especially the leaves of the Aspen trees. But around my house, the colors of the cottonwoods, mountain mahogany and others all give us beautiful sights throughout the season.

Decorating my home for fall usually begins in early September when I begin to bring out some of my treasures that were put away during the spring and summer months. October brings the harvest of pumpkins and gourds and the changing colors of leaves, all staples for some pretty colorful and spectacular vignettes. Then I just add a few special items in November that are perfect for focusing on the Thanksgiving holiday. I love to mix items from nature I find around my house with personal adornments collected over the years.

In my house, linens are always part of the ensemble, whether to dress the top of a dresser or to frame a beautiful dining room table setting. Add some silver pieces – polished or aged to a perfect patina – to provide some visual vintage eye candy that exudes warmth for autumn’s chilly weather.

What are your favorite ways to decorate for this season?

If this is your favorite season too, take time to celebrate everything that makes fall one of the most beautiful times of the year.

Autumn is the hush before winter. ~French Proverb
